Story:

Neena (Shobana) is a single mother, who fell in love for several times before marriage ended in a divorce. Now working as French teacher who wants to lead her life on independently. Nikki played by Kalyani Priyadarshan is conventional, she wants to do arrange marriage with out falling in love before marriage. How the lives of both mother and daughter have changed after Major Unnikrishnan (suresh gopi) and Bibbesh (Dulquer Salmaan) has entered in to lives forms the rest of the story.

Analysis:

This story premise and entire setup may look simplistic and regular but it has many layers. This is the story of divorced women who wants to live her life on her own, a retired major who is suffering with anger issues, a story of two brothers whose parents were died during their childhood, a story of Malayali families living in Chennai and also a story of old lady who was deserted by her family. The way each and every story interlinked is really beautiful. The film has full of positive vibes. Every character is so genuine and natural. We feel like we are living in particular moment and imagine ourselves in story world.

Director Anoop Sathyan‘s script has enough cute and endearing moments throughout the film to keep the smile on the faces of audience.  The way he introduced every character is so touching. The fighting between the characters and their bonding are very natural. The flashback of Dulquer Salmaan is heart-warming. This film has given a decent message through several character without going for preachy and lengthy dialogues. Direction is perfect. The way he gave conclusion to every character is good.

It is good to see yester year actress Shobana in such a beautiful role after so many years. She is excellent. The scene with her brother at the church during pre-climax is really heart touching. Her helpless moments as single mother, her love for Suresh Gopi, confidence required for the character is nicely portrayed by her. She clearly understands the character and performed it so well. Another veteran actress Urvashi has given a brief experience and her chemistry with Kalyani Priyadarshan stands out. Every character is so good, If we start explaining about every character, it would be a novel here, that much of value is woven around every character in movie by director.

Suresh Gopi surprises us with his humor. His role is a serious one but he generates required comedy through is role. His interactions with doctor, last scene between him and Kalyani Priyadarshan, chemistry with Shobana really came out well.

Dulquer Salmaan comes little late in the film. Most of the time he did let other actors to run the show. but the scene where he discusses his past with Kalyani Priyadarshan shows his range as an actor. Dulquer Salmaan fans might have disappointed with the screen time. He should be appreciated for choosing this kind of role where he is not a central character. It looks a like a supporting role most of the time. His love story with Kalyani Priyadarshan also starts very late. The combination scenes between them also very less.

When we have great actors like Shobana, Suresh Gopi, Urvashi, Dulquer Salmaan around you, it would be quite a difficult task for a new comer to act with them, particularly when the whole story is revolving around you. But Kalyani Priyadarshan acted effortlessly, no where we can see her like new comer. She easily carried out her role as a young woman who is obsessed with arranged marriage. As we discussed earlier, her scenes with Urvashi came out really well. Farewell scene between them is one of the major highlights of the film. The scenes between Shobana and Kalyani Priyadarshan touches our hearts and many can easily relate to. To put it short, Kalyani Priyadarshan has surprised us with her beautiful acting, every character is so good, If we start explaining about every character, it would be long essay.

Whenever movie slows down, the music of Alphons joseph lifts your soul. Songs in the films are good. Cinematography by Mukesh Muraleedharan beautifully captures the locales of Chennai. Most of the film runs in one apartment but he made sure that audience won’t get bored with his camera work.

If we had to talk about flaws in the film, the only complaint is that director has concentrated more on Shobana and Kalyani Priyadarshan characters than the other two lead actors, if it is a flaw at any case?.

Funny thing is, for dubbed Telugu version of the movie, makers used more Telugu words than a common Telugu person uses. What a slap on Telugu people’s face.
